We are a City of Immigrants

From January through April 2015, we held more than twenty small and large group discussions related to the George Street Overpass project. These community conversations were organized to inform our community about this exciting public art initiative, and also to ask for their input—a way to inform the artists engaged in the project about the character of Pawtucket, its history, and its future. These are some of their responses, related to Pawtucket as A City of Immigrants.

Pawtucket’s diversity is its strong point, we should utilize it

Cultural diversity is the past and the future

When my daughter went to Shea High School there were over 30 cultures represented

Our history is of being the first stop for immigrants

Immigrant tradition is what Pawtucket is all about

The names of the past are as fascinating as the names of today

Pawtucket is a welcoming, progressive community that values the diversity of our citizens
