Finalists Chosen for George Street

This Spring, three finalists were chosen to present full proposals for the George Street Overpass. In August, each artist will visit Pawtucket to learn more about our City and to share their vision for the bridge’s transformation. Examples of their past projects can be seen above, or at their websites below.


Brower Hatcher, Mid-Ocean Studio

Hatcher resides in Providence, RI and runs Mid-Ocean Studio where he leads teams of artists in collaborations with communities to reflect their unique identity and spirit. His artworks employ a matrix of metal connecting elements and colorful forms. Brower attended Vanderbilt University’s School of Engineering and holds an Industrial Design degree from Pratt Institute in New York. He has served on the faculty at St. Martins and Bennington College. He is the recipient of three NEA Fellowships and a Guggenheim Fellowship.  |

Joshua Wiener

Wiener is a Sculptor from Denver, Colorado who teaches at Denver’s Arts Students League. His work is wide ranging in style, done in metal and stone with both figurative and abstract content. He was born into a family of stone carvers as his mother founded The Marble Institute of Colorado. Joshua studied at Fort Lewis College and as an apprentice in Japan with Kazxutaka Uchida.  |  www.

Zhao Suikang

Suikang lives in New York and works across the media of sculpture, painting and writing focusing on the existing reality of different cultures to create harmony and dissonance in a shared space. Zhao received his BA at Shanghai Teachers’ College, China and an MFA at the School of Visual Arts, New York. He is an Assistant Professor in the Fine Arts Department at FIT and a recipient of a Pollock-Krasner award and a fellowship from The New York Foundation for the Arts.  |
